After school activity
After school activity is defined as an organized program that invites children and youth so that they can
participate outside their traditional school in some activities and events. There are many primary and secondary
schools as well as many non profit and commercial organizations that run these after school activities.
There is no fixed place for these after-school activities because they can be organized anywhere like in the
community centers, libraries, parks, etc. These after school activities mainly act as the corner-stone for the
concerted cultivation, and provide children with different qualities like leadership, experience, etc. so that they
can deal with adults. Besides this, there are other benefits of these after school activities as they support the
mental and physical development of the children as well.
It has been seen that the children who participate in these after school activities are believed to be more
successful in their school life and later life.
Typical activities that are carried after the school for the children are:
· Sports like soccer, hockey, baseball, swimming, etc. these are necessary for the physical development of
children and also helps in improving the concentration level among children.
· Performing arts likes dance, ballet, and drama. These help in enhancing the creative side of a child.
Creative arts like painting, crafts, and drawing. These are mainly hobby classes that help in developing brain of
children.
· Cramming schools for academic related subjects like literacy, and mathematics.
All these after school activities are source of great fun for children that engage them in something productive
during their free time. When these after school activities are organized by schools then it has been seen that
there is a high level of enrollment, mainly because of the competition.
Most of these after school activities are organized in either afternoon time or evening time so that they do not
interfere with the studies of children. These days it is important for the parents to motivate their children to
get engaged in some after school activity so that their children can be supervised under correct guidance in their
absence and do not fall into criminal or some undesirable activities like drug-taking or the teenage-sex. It has
been noticed that generally daily occurrences of many violent crimes take place mainly between the peak times of 3
to 4 PM, which is just after the end of the school day.
All these after school activities can give children a safe place where they are protected from such kind of
dangers.
Before getting their children enrolled into any after school activity, parents need to consult their children and
need to know their interests and obsession. If parents will put their child in such an activity in which the child
is least interested then it is of no use because a child is not going to learn anything forcibly. After school
activities are seen as the time that can help children to loosen up and to relish the joy of their leisure
time.
Therefore, it becomes important for the parents to provide their children with many options to choose from.
Besides this, if the child is not willing to join any kind of after school activity then it becomes a duty of
parents to cajole their child and to make him understand the benefits of these activities.
